A Louis XV ormolu-mounted satinated wood and Kingwood bureau plat

 
78 x 160 x 80 cm (30 ³/₄ x 63 x 31 ¹/₂ inches)


In satin venneer inlaid brace in kingwood frames, with top inset with a brown leather writing surface above three drawers,the whole fitted with gilt-bronze foliate mounts, scrolled handles,chutesand sabots,raised on cabriole legs.
Crowned C mark(1745-1749).

Jean-Mathieu Chevallier (1694 – 1768), Master the 5thmarch 1743.
Eldest brother of Charles Chevallier,he knows a great prosperity and received orders for several aristocratic residences such as the « Duc de Talmont » hôtel,and one of the  castles of Louis-Anne de Bourbon Condé. His presence ,in 1745, among the creditors of André Charles II Boulles may indicate a collaboration between the two craftsmen.

The Decorative Art Museum of Paris own a small secrétaire Louis XV satined and amaranth veneer from this cabinet maker
