?Gilded and molded wooden mirror. Topped with a basket of flowers surrounded by a spade and a pitchfork crossed together, attributes of the gardener. Foliage falls from the basket in garlands on the upper sides of the mirror. The lower corners are framed by a shelf resting on leaves from which a branch of foliage springs forth. Inside the frame is molded with three different rows, pearls, tongues, and geometric patterns. Mirror in two parts.
The allegory of gardening evoked by the spade and pitchfork, as well as the basket of flowers, is reminiscent of Jean-Jacques Rousseau's (1712–1778) thought: " Man must be at the heart of Nature, a conservator and architect of its balance, a reasoned interventionist within the ecosystems he strives to understand."
