?Flat backrest, richly carved walnut decorated with lambrequins, foliage, and leaves. Flared armrests adorned with stylized shells. Scalloped apron. Curved legs with clogs.
Beautiful original upholstery with small and large Saint-Cyr stitches depicting allegorical scenes animated with characters, or fables by La Fontaine in reserves inspired by the plates from René Charpentier's collection of ornamental drawings engraved by Jean-Nicolas Baillon.

The Saint-Cyr stitch is the royal tapestry stitch par excellence. The petit point tapestry technique taught by Madame de Maintenon at her educational establishment in Saint Louis, Saint Cyr, became a social phenomenon and invaded boudoirs and salons. It can be found on a tapestry by Madame de Mailly, which Louis XV later slashed with a knife, and on the upholstery of armchairs made by Marie Antoinette for Compiègne. Practiced at court and among the provincial bourgeoisie, Saint Cyr stitch tapestry has gone down in history. The great figures of this world continued the tradition by embroidering Petit Point tapestries for their furniture, the Duchess of Berry for her château in Rosny and General Cambronne to occupy his old age...
